Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mom’s out there. I’m currently in beautiful Southern Oregon with Jill and her wonderful mom, Carol. We’re enjoying the sunshine and some wine tasting. More pinot noir please! 🙂
Anyway… let’s talk about the upside of having more impact and influence as a service entrepreneur. And… what it might be costing you!
Most of us are driven by security and comfort. We’re afraid to access the best version of ourselves. We want to AVOID risk.
Yet, the riskiest thing we can ever do is not live up to our fullest potential and not seek out the best version of ourselves.
Every entrepreneur should strive to have a profitable business that allows for plenty of impact, income and freedom (what I call Exponential Impact). It’s not about the bragging rights. It’s not about the money. It’s not even about the upgraded lifestyle.
It’s about being able to live the best and truest version of yourself. To be able to own your identity and have flexibility and freedom of choice. This freedom, for most, is scary.
“Who will I become when I can truly be myself?”
“Who will I become when I’m no longer stressing about where the next client will come from or whether that one perfect client says yes or no?”
“Who will I become when I’m no longer concerned about having enough money to pay for taxes and health insurance and still have plenty left over to take take my wife to dinner?”
“Who will I become when I don’t need to call all the shots, take all the credit, keep all the money, and do all the work?”
I remember the anxiety I felt asking myself these questions… most likely while laying awake at 2am. I almost had a panic attack when I realized that I didn’t know the answer.
Well I’m here to tell you not to panic like I did.
Why?
Because you’ll become the exact person you need to be in order to live out your vision and purpose.
“Hold on Michael… I don’t know my bigger vision or purpose.”
Ah, yes…
Becoming the boldest and truest version of yourself is the first reason to build a business that delivers more impact and influence.
And the second is that it allows you to truly understand why you were born. When you figure out how to deliver more impact and value to the world, you’re rewarded with more freedom. And you might finally start to get a glimpse of what your full potential could be. And you’ll most certainly get clearer on the bigger impact you want to make in the world.
It’s impossible to truly know yourself when you’re stressing over the day-to-day details.
How are you going to pay your bills? How is your business actually going to work? Is there enough money coming in? Are you charging enough?
You must elevate to a higher-level of understanding of yourself and your business and the best way to do that is to have more impact and influence than you currently believe is possible.
Achieving this impact and freedom, no doubt, will be a long journey with lots of unintentional detours and setbacks.
But here’s the truth.
Having a more profitable, scalable and impact-driven business has given me more time, freedom, fun, fulfillment and happiness than at any other point in my life.
My current business is a work-in-progress but it allows me to do most of what I want in life. To be happy… to serve others… and to make an impact.
My definition of success is: “Being able to do what I want, when I want, with who I want, because I want to. While having an impact that creates value for others and makes the world a better place.”
Whatever your definition of success is… the end result is the same. When you are able to tap into that definition of success, magic will begin to happen.
And that is what I want for you.
Because the best version of you is NOT connected to how much money you have or how hard you hustle.
Your best self surfaces when you are aligned with the impact and value you want to create for yourself and others.
